How To Align Internal Audit Function With The Business Strategy

Aligning Internal Audit functions with the company strategic goals and objectives requires a shift from overburden the second and third lines of defense to the first line of defense owning their processes, risks and controls through proactive preventive, detective and corrective mechanisms. In this case, the first line of defense will be required to prove more of the assurance comfort while the second and third lines of defenses spending less time doing mundane things but focus on the key risks that matter to the business through continuous control monitoring and auditing while leveraging combined assurance model..

On 17th and 18th September 2025, the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Nigeria held its annual conference at Shell Hall, Muson Centre Lagos. The event attracted thousands of participants and 32 captains of industry from different countries as speakers and panelists. I was among the speakers.
